Dave Satre

Dave is semi-retired (or is that semi-retarded?) and can generally be found emmersed in his music or writing projects, designing and maintaining web sites, or editing a daily e-mail joke list. He has a degree in music and journalism, and taught instrumental music in local schools for many years before switching to technical writing. He maintains a blog, consisting mostly of social and political commentary, jokes and cartoons.

Dave Satre has been playing the trumpet for more years than he can remember (we suspect this is the result of a failing memory), but our research shows he must have started the instrument in the fourth grade and has been playing the damned thing for over a half-a-century.

He was lucky enough to grow up in a small Minnesota town (Lake Wobegon) that had an outstanding music program. Dave went to the Navy School of Music and played in the Third Army band in Atlanta and the Seventh Division band in Korea during a three-year stint in the Army. He played lead in the San Jose State jazz ensemble and was the principle trumpet of the university's symphonic band.

He plays in several Bay Area big bands and leads The Swing Solution Big Band. He also loves playing dixieland and will occasionally show up in local concert bands and orchestras.
