Bill Autry
Bill Autry is one of the most experienced players in the Swing Solution. Bill has been a professional musician, a freelance arranger and a school music teacher. We don't know how long he's been playing, but he started in the fourth grade and plays the clarinet and flute as well as all of the saxophones. He plays the second alto chair in the Swing Solution and is one of our favorite soloists. Bill is also a great arranger, and is adding some real great charts to our repertoire. He's also a successful investor and has retired, preferring to let his investments do the work for him.
Following a stint in the Air Force, Bill was a professional musician/arranger and was involved with weekly radio shows. Bill played with several traveling bands and recorded with Leighton Noble. He also played with Lawrence Welk and appeared in movies and on several recordings with that band.
Bill's publishing credits include piano teaching materials used for piano promotions by Macy's department stores and music for the store's use. He built a show band for the Ali Baba ballroom in Oakland and a television show that was aired lived by Channel 7 TV in San Francisco. Bill has also published a Cantata for Symphony Orchestra and a religious Chorus.
Bill holds a BA in music, an MM in composition and a lifetime teaching credential. He has taught music in grammer and middle schools as well as adult education. He was also employed to research music curriculum and developed a K through 8th grade teaching manual.
His hobbies include gardening, HO trains and traveling.
